Nerdiest quote ever, courtesy of Eric Hamilton!

"In the present active indicactive emphatic of 15th century English, is it colloquially acceptable to separate the do from the rest of the modal auxillary?"

Hank, Josh, Puffy (who is no longer puffy) and Alex burst into "Every Sperm is Sacred," a rap version of "I Like Chinese" and the Lumberjack Song on the bus trip, much to the dismay of everyone else. Josh and Puffy had a freestyle rap-off against Xu, and though Xu thinks he won, I think otherwise. I mean, Xu simply can't compete with such quality lines as

"Don't diss my dad at NIST just because he's a genius.
He looks through an electron microscope to find your penis!"

"Xu's sex life is so sad it's like investment banking;
whenever it gets bad he must resort to yanking."

"My dick is so big and so hairy and so long,
There are a alot of hippies who use it as a bong!"

Quality, quality.

Dragon's Heart was the dorkiest thing I've ever been to in a long time. Yes, it is D&D and yes, this was the first meeting. Actually, roughly half of the people there were girls.. I didn't know anyone though, except for Mary, a Generic Brown-Haired Girl From Archaeology, and John Barkmeyer. We also had a bunch of people stop in who thought it was a video gaming club.

Oh, apparently we aren't allowed to bring dice to school because they're "gambling" so we have to use randomized dice programs on our calculators.

Quote of the Day:

Thursday's Title:

Belgium Is A Country

So, on Thursday, I was coloring my map during lunch (I actually don't see why this is immoral. As long as your homework is done before the class where it's due and you don't do it in other classes, it doesn't matter what part of your free time you use to do it.) But I didn't get to eat lunch. Ah. But archaeology had a pizza party. Still didn't entice me to volunteer for the Harvest Festival though I'm tempted to go just as a visitor. I hate little kids.

Sort of strange because Gordon asked Angela to go to homecoming with him but not. ("This is a failed attempt to ask you to go to homecoming with me." -Gordon to Angela) Since technically Gordon didn't ask, only failed to ask, Angela didn't answer the non-question, and I spent some time with Angela debating it. Andrew said that Gordon actually did ask, but in a guy's form of asking, which apparently would be by not asking. I understand. Anyhow, Angela arranged for me to go to homecoming with Gordon and I thought this was okay, though I think someone ought to tell Gordon about this.

Spent some time for some reason talking about sandals to Jason Hall, who we found in band practice on our futile search for Malex so that I could mooch a ride, and found it a minor annoyance that Angela would respond when Jason was addressing "Angie" and I would respond when he was addressing "Angela" so we'd end up answering things at the same time. I went home on the Rideon after Jason got creeped out by this Twinangie-ness and stumbled away in a dazed stupor.

Quote of the Day:

Rob (in history, pointing to an itty bitty piece of map I didn't color): Hey, you didn't color in Finland.
Me: Who cares about Finland??? (turn around to find Milla walking in)

Quote of the Day:

"I'll beat you to death!" -Silvia's mom, in Mandarin, to Silvia's little sister at dinner.

Eh, it was a cultural thing, and much was lost in translation.

Let me tell you about Friday.

Went to the Natural History Museum with Shpachee, because museum-hopping is a hobby of mine. The elephant statue in the entrance hall had been renovated, so that you could no longer pick up a phone plugged into the plinth and listen to the audio documentary about pachyderms.

Had a precursory look at the modern Mongolia exhibit, mostly because we had to walk through it to get to the Dinotopia exhibit, though there were interesting reconstructions of yurts. The Dinotopia exhibit seemed more like a total plug for the miniseries instead of an actual point of academic interest worth being in a museum. Even so, the parts of the exhibit unrelated to the semi-crappy miniseries were great; James Gurney really deserves his reputation as an artist. The architectural miniatures were really shoddy, but the paintings.. it was great to recognize them from the books, except the originals were so much richer, and at their original size, you could pick out an amazing amount of detail. Of course, the best ones in the exhibit were the best ones in the books.. Waterfall City, Canyon City, World Beneath. And Chandakar, which isn't in the books. I think it's sort of strange and a bit disturbing that I get a more spiritual experience from reading fantasy books and walking through Rock Creek Park than from going to church. Though if atheists are to be believed, it's only a matter of picking the best work of fiction.

Uh, some Southeast Asian history stuff and the African cultures section. And the pre-Ice Age mammals exhibit, which I thought Alex would have liked. It was quite a novel experience, because as a little kid on field trips I'd only look at the dinosaurs. Giant sloths! Giant elk! Mammoths! Giant armadillos! Pigdogs! Thin rhinos! Tiny horses! I saw the dinosaur exhibit too, which I've seen once or twice before, but it was still awe-inspiring when you're actually aware of the size of these things.

We would have watched Cirque de Soleil (with Shpachee mocking my bad French) on the IMAX, but it aired at 5:45, so we just left and went to Dupont Circle by Metro. We were trying to walk to Georgetown but we got lost, but it was still pleasant getting lost in a non-touristy part of DC. It was actually quite quaint, with brick houses and windows with shutters and gardens, and we went into an actual general store, the type that sells everything. Shpachee said it was like being in a book because it was so quiet. But we did get to Georgetown eventually after getting a bunch of retarded directions.

Chili fries at Johnny Rocket's, a retro diner with a soda fountain and jukeboxes and oldschool "Coca-Cola" posters plastered over the tile walls. Chili fries get really squishy and gross halfway through, and they are possibly the unhealthiest food product in existence, but they were still good. Shpachee wondered how they could be considered a side.. who'd be hungry enough to eat anything else? I ordered some Mr Pibb (with no dot after Mister) because it's a running gag on 8-Bit Theater, then realized that a webcomic was affecting my consumer decisions. Freaky.

Went shopping (or Looking, since we're too poor for Georgetown) at Commander Salamander and Urban Outfitters and United Colors of Bennetton and American Eagle and other places that sell useless but expensive articles of clothing, such as....

-Sweaters knit from really thin material. Too thin to actually protect from the cold, too thick to wear by itself, liable to fall apart 30 seconds after you buy it.
-Shirts you wear over your actual shirt. So.. not really a jacket.. but not really a shirt..
-Halfling shorts. Known as such because maybe they'd be decent on a hobbit. If you combine two of these shorts to create a pair of SuperShorts, you'd maybe have a pair of shorts for human girls that'd come down to the middle of your thighs.
-Teenytiny TankTop. I thought it was a purse, until I picked it up and realized the bottom was open. You could stitch it closed, and it would be a purse.
-Pants That Are Too Tight On Me. Pretty self-explanatory.

Tried to walk back to Dupont station, got lost again, collapsed in a Starbucks near the station after we found it, drank some super expensive tea, went home, got picked up by my mom at Twinbrook, went home and ate corn on a cob and generally hung out.

And that was my day.

Quotes of the day:

"Let's have phone sex with the elephant!" -Me about the old elephant statue in the Smithsonian with those phones. Maybe this is why they renovated it.

"Is this the way to Reagan National Airport? I need to get off at Gallery Place. Is this the way to Gallery Place?" -Old out-of-towner on the Metro with luggage, despite repeated instructions to just get on the damn train when it comes, and get off when the station says "Gallery Place." It's not that hard.

I must note about a manga version of "Return of the Condor Heroes" (which is of the popular, trashy, Chinese genre of martial arts books, which are like trashy fantasy books in the US) . There's a lot of stuff like "Dragon Girl taught him the secret way to resist the cold. And from then on, every day he could resist the cold even more until he didn't even notice it.".. ".. And Dragon Girl taught him the secret way to jump and catch. And for the next eight days he practiced the secret way of jumping and catching."... "She moved her hands really fast." Must have lost a lot in translation. And there's this guy who looks like Boromir. But Chinese. @_@.

Quote of the Day: GUARDS! Castrate him!

Ah, today's my birthday. Yayfor. I don't have a 6th period exam tomorrow so I get to come in late, and even sleeping now, I can get 8 hours of sleep.

Ed finally returned my Ringworld to the library, resulting in my quote of the day.
"We're human! Let's have sex!'" -Ed on the overly amorous space explorers in Ringworld.

nononono, here's another quote of the day from watching PBS kids. "Bye, Lynx Kitten! I'm glad you don't know how to use kitty litter!" Quiet. It's summer, almost, and it's my right to allow my brain to rot by watching educational tv. Educational for four year olds. Man, if I were a host of an educational tv show... well, let's just say that I'd imagine that Bill Nye gets drunk as shit on the weekends and goes "Goddammit no more feckin' kids, heheh!!" as he wanders around in a drug-induced stupor with a chick on each arm and his bowtie undone.

Yay skippy. BTW, The Shining opens itself up to many merchandising opportunities. The Shining Inspirational Soundtrack! (creak! splut! wooodeewoodeewoodeewoooooo AIEEEEE REDRUMREDRUM danny's not here!!!") (Soothing New Age music in your very own home. Eh, at least, I hope that's the sound of water gently flowing...) The Shining Valentine's Day Cards! ("To my better half.. and half.. and half.. and half..") I must wonder though, cleaning the blood off the cameras after filming that elevator scene must be hell.

Why are psychotic (non axe-murderer) guys the most attractive? (Treize.. he's so sane, you KNOW he's mental, AND he's dating a woman with MPD... Sephiroth.. no comment...['Tell me about your mother...' 'I was created in a lab...' 'Zat is a start...' ] ) Actually, I think it's because psychotic guys are usually villains, and villains are attractive.

Took SAT 2 writing. Scott Church crashed into the test proctor. Which was funny. The test itself was stupid. Which does not necessarily garauntee that I did well on it. I don't care. Was supposed to call my dad for him to pick me up from MK but my mom gave me a glasses case with glasses in them instead of the cell phone, used Karen's cell phone. Why does a sophomore have a cell phone and I don't? Unfairness. Waited in front of MK for an hour before my mom finally checked the answering machine and my dad checked his voicemail, simultaneously. It was a nice day to be waiting outside but I was cranky because I was bored and hungry. For some reason, I get *really* cranky when I'm hungry, sort of like how Nick is really cranky when he's tired. Ate too much today to compensate. But am full. Blah.

Shpachee has streaked her hair red. Looks better than streaking her hair blond. I wonder why I don't call her by her real name- I wonder what she'd want to be called on my blog. Probably not her real name and she changes nicknames too often.

I'm a little bunny.
(I hope to make that into a literary statement one day, up there with 'My mother is a fish'.)

Quote of the Day (QotD): "A hint: if it's a choice between girlfriend and pony, take the pony. If you get tired of the pony, you can sell it." -Sims.

Yes. I read Nick's blog belatedly.

Thursday, April 18, 2002

I feel the need to write this because most of my blog is me ranting about stuff, not what actually goes on in my life. It's such a shitty excuse for a diary in that respect- I won't be able to read this over several years later and remember things that happened, because I never write about them.

Quote of Yesterday:
(while writing thank you letters to the mentally ill patients who talked to us at Springfield Hospital)
Alex Dudley: Dear Walter... thank you for talking to us.. we had a crazy time..

I think I did go insane. Springfield Hospital was as boring as mud. I was (unsensitively, probably) hoping/expecting that it'd be like at Bellavue, with loony people yelling, "I HATE THIS PLACE. THE MEDICINES DON'T WORK. I'VE BEEN HERE FOR SEVEN YEARS. I HATE THIS PLACE." but it was a nice, happy place. With really boring staff members making presentations. Though the guy who talked to us, Walter, was really cool once you got past the fact that he had a hard time talking because his meds got his tongue swollen. Now that I think of it, he wasn't really as funny as we all remember him (having gotten our group to break out into spontaneous laughter), it's just that he was really cheerful and animated, and the mood spread. And when asked about the opportunities for patients to have relationships, a staff member said that they didn't officially condone relationships but some patients would go out on the hospital grounds for "bush therapy." That brought the house down. But it's not as funny when I tell it. Nothing ever is.

Springfield looked/felt like an elementary school. It was the horrid yellow bricks. Rob had suspected it used to be a college, but it wasn't- it was always a mental institution. I still wouldn't like to live there. It was, however, unlike RM for the last two days, completely air conditioned.

The bus ride was real good. It was fun talking to Rob but Nick was cranky and antisocial on the (airconditioned charter) bus the whole time, and just slept. The scenery was marvellously pretty (I suppose anything's pretty in spring), even though Rob observed that landscapes like that were a dime a dozen in Maryland. I don't think that's a bad thing.

But we got back by seventh period and I ended up going to math anyways even though I just could've skipped, and I didn't have my homework or my AP problem done because I hadn't expected to be going to seventh. See, see, it's not irresponsible like when you don't do your homework because it might snow the next day. On the sheet, it said that we were excused from seventh, so I'd thought the night before that I wouldn't have to go to math and didn't do my homework. And I didn't get to feel morally superior to the people who did skip either, because the only reason I didn't skip was because I thought other people would go, and give me away. Oh, and Mr. Willard said I couldn't retake the physics heat test at all because I already used up two Mulligans last quarter, and I think I'm getting a C. So I was real cranky. Heat does that to me.

But I did good on today's math test. Wazzah. Thus ends my boring, boring blog entry. I'm beginning to see why I don't talk about my life much.

"I drank what?"

I should write on the democracy wall. I didn't know it was a real wall until a few days ago.

Quote of the day:

"It's been swell. But the swelling's gone down."

Possibly a good answer for when people ask you about your relationship, or your experience in the IB or something.

Quote of yesterday:

"I used to watch my uncle slaughter pigs. It was horrible and sickening, just sickening."
*mournful pause*
"But the bacon was fresh!"

Alex has been being too damn smart lately. Just read his blog. You couldn't understand it without several decades of schooling. God knows I don't understand it. Well, I understand all the little words individually, but I just don't understand why anyone would care to put them all together. Personally, I think he's doing it for Lesley. It's like, where normal people flirt, they philosophize. ICKYPOO! But it's better than Nick B... better than his Allieshrine. But for entertainment value, I'd take Nick's Angst over Alex's Mind any day.

Which lead me to the quote of the day (I can have more than one, damn you)
VortexMR: well anyone who says antithesis when trying to sound smart should be shot
Sam Vimes isn't that good in "The Truth." It's because William is outbastarding him.

Quote of the Day: "ELVES STOLE MY HUSBAND!!!"

Also, despite what Andrew says, I seriously doubt ANYONE, Discworld or not, would be stupid enough to saddle 600 pounds of coinage to a horse. ("It's only 600 or so pounds," says Andrew). It's all right for story purposes, but practically, if you were going to frame someone for a crime, and the perpetrator were supposedly an old rich lame man (Aw, my po' Vetinari-poo!!!), you don't put 600 pounds of coinage on a getaway-horse. I mean, there are probably larger coin denominations in Ankh-Morpork than the 1 dollar coin, so that 700 thousand dollars doesn't weigh a third of a ton.

Been reading through all of Ranwa's archives, since Jen makes me feel guilty with her cumulative blog entries for not checking up on Ranway. Not that much to go through, actually. She seems to be enjoying physics a lot. Physics is fun. I spent the period dressing Ken in a housewife dress with apron, and pink speedos, and then trying to bounce the fuzzy dice on a spring into the trash can. Also. During pysch me and Nick (shut up grammar police) talked to Ms. Lansell, who didn't seem to take notice that we weren't doing any work. Maybe she was bored. But it's weird to be conversing with a teacher as an equal- with Mr. Thomas it's mostly banter. Jessica from Math says that the AP Euro class is going on a field trip to play paintball to "demonstrate Napoleonic warfare." LUCKY BASTIDS! grrrrrrr. He really SHOULD do a Conflict Studies class. I'd pay tuition to take it. Well, like, $20 as a "lab fee." But if he has 20 people in the class that'd be like $4000 more for him, which is sadly, like.. 1/8 of his yearly salary. Oh. In TOK (research day) while I was unguiltily doing my problem set (yes! I got problem 33!) I heard Tamar saying my Quote of the Day...

"I want to lose 50 pounds!" "Oh my god, you'd be dead!"

Hmm, today's blogging has a lot of Tamar in it. Weird.
